The project consists of the following subprojects
1. Renovation of the EHVC Koumoundouros
2. Construction of the new Transmission Line (T.L.) 400 kV EHVC Korinthos - EHVC Koumoundouros approximately 88 km long of which sections about 41.6 km in total will be constructed in place of the existing OHL 150 kV EHVC Korinthos – EHVC Koumoundouros
The above mentioned projects aim to:
• increase the supply safety and improve the voltages’ stability issues of the Southern System with the expansion of the 400 kV System to the Peloponnese and upgrade of the extra high voltage center Koumoundourou in Attica.
• fully utilize the local abundant RES potential, which is currently subjected to restrictions imposed by the limited capacity of energy transmission between Peloponnese and Attica. Utilization of this potential is an important issue at regional and national level due to the sustainability of RES but also in the context of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
• create new employment opportunities at regional and national level.
These projects complement other co-funded projects and contribute to the increase of RES penetration, meeting specific energy and climate targets defined by the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP).
