The mission of the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) is to supply Greece with power in a reliable, efficient and environmentally-friendly manner, while promoting the development of free competition in the country’s electricity market.
The purpose of the Transmission System is the connection of power plants and the seamless, safe and uninterrupted transmission of electricity from points of production to points of consumption.
IPTO interconnects every corner of Greece, staying true to its vision for the country's energy transformation.
IPTO is the main body of the electricity market. In addition to being the owner and operator of the Transmission System, it is also responsible for the management of interconnections and the organisation and operation of the balancing market.
