TwinEU

Project Description

In the scope of TwinEU project, a consortium of 75 partners representing 15 European countries have collaborated to create a Digital Twin (DT) of the entire European electricity grid. The DT enables the execution of various simulations to investigate potential scenarios that may arise during network operation. The scope of the project is to improve the management, operations, and resilience of the EU grid by supporting the research and development of new technologies to foster an advanced concept of the DT.

IPTO is actively engaged in the creation of a Digital Twin designed for predicting system load and Renewable Energy Sources (RES) production, optimizing the grid, and coordinating market actions. This collaborative effort involves key partners from the Greek energy landscape, including HEDNO, HENEX, RAEWW, and UPRC. The primary focus is on developing a unit commitment model within the TSO-DSO framework. This model aims to optimize the scheduling of reserves and determine the necessary balancing energy for efficient grid management.

East-Mediterranean Demo Description
Join us in an insightful interview with Nikos Koltsaklis, the E-Mediterranean Demo leader from UPRC, as he discusses the strategic role and impact of the TwinEU project on the European electricity system. In this video, Nikos addresses several critical questions about the project's value and the challenges specific to the East Mediterranean demo:
