ENFLATE project is targeting the higher penetration of clean energies in power systems by enhancing the use of system flexibility and stimulating the participation of consumers in energy markets. Towards this end, the design of the ENFLATE platform includes on Data-driven Flexibility Markets and Consumer-centric Business Models, while is based on data management and interoperability technology.

The implementation of “smart grids” – electrical grids that monitor and adapt power flows from production to usage – must proceed rapidly in order to reach these targets, allowing for the balancing of energy supply and demand. The Horizon Europe ENFLATE project therefore aims to build upon already existing solutions on data-driven, optimised energy and data flow, and replicate these solutions in different contexts and given varying consumer needs.

IPTO in ENFLATE plays a key role in the Greek demo, as TSO and balancing market operator. The demo site for the Greek pilot is the island of Skiathos. The new transmission line (150kV), that interconnects the island of Skiathos with the mainland, allows to the DERs, consumers, residential storage, and EVs on the island to participate in the electricity markets established recently in Greece (balancing, intraday) or provide additional flexibility services to the DSO and TSO. In this framework, IPTO provides the required data and interrelation with the power system operation and market operation. The Greek demo is led by UPRC (The University of Piraeus Research Centre), which will design the market flexibility platform for the island of Skiathos. Also, IPTO and the Greek DSO (HEDNO) will be both the operators of this platform.
