Crete Valley

Project Description

The main objective of CRETE VALLEY is to create a Renewable Energy Valley ‘Living Lab’ (REV-Lab) within a pilot project in the Crete Island, enabling the transition from a centralized carbon driven scenario to a distributed, renewable, low carbon landscape fully covering the local energy needs on an annual basis by multiple renewable energy carriers for electricity, heat, and fuels, and leveraging energy storage technologies. The CRETE VALLEY concept will deploy a social, technological, and business framework to aggregate multiple renewable energy carriers and promote consumers' activation, in order to increase local energy efficiency, while at the same time aiming at increasing local security of supply. The Crete REV-Lab will be made up of four Community Energy Labs (CELs) located in distinct sites across the REV, conceived as Innovation Hubs.

IPTO will focus on the scenario analysis for multiple carrier grid management in Crete REV-Lab using the implemented within the project Digital Twin, via simulating different operational scenarios for the local energy system (power flow analysis) involving different weather conditions, energy demand profiles, and RES availability, in association with HEDNO, ICCS, CERTH, and HEnEx.
