A fire broke out tonight, at 11.05 pm, in the premises of IPTO’s Koumoundourou Extra High Voltage Center, located in the area of Aspropyrgos.
According to initial estimates, the blaze was caused by a short-circuit in one of the four autotransformers, resulting in the EHVC’s going out of operation.
The center of Athens, Piraeus, areas of Western Attica and Peloponnese were affected by the fault. At the moment, strenuous efforts are being made by the crews of both IPTO and HEDNO, with the electricity supply having already been restored in most areas of Attica and in the entire High Voltage Transmission System in Peloponnese.
Mr. Kostas Skrekas, Minister for Environment and Energy and Mr. Manos Manousakis, IPTO’s President and CEO, accompanied by competent executives of the Operator’s Administration, have already reached the site.
For further developments there will be relevant update.
