iDesignRES

Description

The goal of the research project is to provide public authorities and network operators with open-source toolboxes, allowing to plan and optimize long-term energy systems, renewable energy sources integration and infrastructure upgrading, at national regional, and European scales. Users will be able to design a renewable energy system entirely online (cloud hub platform) with an easily accessible suite of tools capable of modelling at high spatial-temporal resolutions, assembling models with a high degree of granularity and representing detailed energy systems.

IPTO participates in this research project by providing network data relevant to a replication use case on a South-Eastern European macro-region (Greece – Bulgaria). In addition, IPTO will use the tool to examine energy transition strategies and provide feedback about tool usability, future real-world applications, results and its operability. During the project there will be close collaboration with local partners such as PPC and E3M.
