Stepping into the final year

In the first 2 years of TwinEU, the project consortium built a strong base - now we are set out to finish this project on a high note! To do so, at our 5th General Assembly in January 2026, we mapped out the remaining tasks to be able to provide a European scale impact, and bring the power system one step further in its digitalization. In 2026 we are focusing on sharing the results, so there is plenty to come: events, factsheets, publications, webinars - scroll down for a little teaser where you can cath TwinEU next.

Building pan-EU scenarios of local digital twins

Definition of pan-European use cases was in the focal point of the 5th General Assembly of the TwinEU. The event, which marks the start of the 3rd and final year of the project focused on mapping out the remaining tasks to ensure that TwinEU will have an impact not only on a local and regional, but also on a European scale.

During the General Assembly, taking place in Delft, the Netherlands on 27-28th January 2026 the TwinEU consortium agreed on 6 pan-EU scenarios. These use cases are identified throughout the 8 demonstrators of the project, digital twin solutions which are to be tested and validated in other scenarios than their original demo site. This includes:

  • A grid hosting capacity map

  • Co-optimization of the energy and balancing capacity market coupling with dynamic flow-based auction

  • High accuracy forecasting

  • Flexibility management & frequency support

  • System security & stability

  • Digital twin for power line monitoring

Digital Twins x Data Spaces

Visit the materials of the TwInsider Session #2

This session focused on how data spaces and digital twins together form the digital backbone of a smarter, more flexible, and resilient electricity system. We learned how these two key enablers are unlocking new levels of interoperability, transparency, and collaboration across the European power sector.

Not only TwinEU presented its brand new Data Space Connector, and discussed further use cases and challenges with the International Data Spaces Association and the fellow Horizon Europe-project INSIEME.
