The replacement of the submarine cables Livadi (S. Evia) - Andros and Andros - Tinos

The project consisted of the study, supply and installation of power cable systems and fiber optics for the two interconnections, which substituted the existing interconnections between Andros – Livadi (S. Evoia) and Andros – Tinos.

Benefits

Through the implementation of the project, the reliability of the Cyclades interconnection system, a strategic project of national importance, was significantly enhanced, as the Livadi – Andros and Andros – Tinos interconnections formed the second power supply corridor linking the Cyclades to the mainland through Evia. The project’s contribution to the safe and reliable interconnection of the Cyclades Islands, along with the increased electricity transfer capacity, enabled greater penetration of Renewable Energy Sources in power generation, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and replacing oil-fired power plants on the islands with modern, environmentally friendly natural gas units operating on the mainland.
