Technical evaluation for Crete-Attica interconnection complete

Ariadne Interconnection announces that the technical evaluation of the offers for the DC cable sections of the Crete-Attica Interconnection was concluded.

The largest suppliers in the world took part in the tender process, and the following companies qualified for the next phase: 

  1. For the first part, involving the design, supply and installation of one of the two submarine cables to connect Crete to Attica, and the electrode stations in Crete and Attica, the companies that qualified were Prysmian and Nexans. The budget for this section is EUR 255 million.
  2. The companies above also qualify for the second section, for the second submarine cable. The budget for this section is EUR 225 million.
  3. For the third part, that relates to the underground cable parts that will connect the Converter Stations in Crete and Attica with the submarine cable sections, the companies that qualify are Prysmian, Nexans and NKT-Hellenic Cables. The budget for this section is EUR 115 million.
  4. For the fourth part, involving the design, supply and installation of fiber optics, the company that qualified is Prysmian. The budget for this part amounts to EUR 20 million.

The ultimate selection of the contractors for each part of the project will be completed in early November, after the companies take part in a lowest bid process.

The Chairman of Ariadne Interconnection and Chairman and CEO of parent group IPTO, Manos Manousakis, remarked on the subject: “The largest infrastructure project that is carried out today in the country, the Crete-Attica Interconnection, is going forward without obstacles. IPTO commits to the earliest possible completion of the tenders for the cable sections and the converter stations, in order for the construction of this emblematic EUR 1 bn project to begin in 2020. The Crete-Attica Interconnection, along with the Crete-Peloponnese interconnection, implementation of which is fully under way, ensure the stable and reliable power supply of Crete by the mainland system”.
