GRID TELECOM and WIND – Fiber optics contract

The Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) announces the signing of a long-term fiber optics backbone network lease agreement between its subsidiary GRID TELECOM and WIND.

The Agreement is signed for a 15-year term and provides for the leasing of multiple pairs of Fiber Optics on specific sections of the IPTO network on the Greek mainland, adding up to 1,600 km.

Mr Μanos Manousakis, Chairman and CEO of IPTO, stated:  “Through GRID TELECOM, IPTO intends to become active in the wholesale telecommunications market, following the example of large European Transmission Operators.  GRID TELECOM is taking its first steps today and we expect that it will soon make a leap into the fast-growing data transfer market.“

About GRID TELECOM

GRID TELECOM was established in January 2019.  Its mission is to utilize the 2,700 km of fiber optic network already installed on the High and Ultra High Voltage Transmission lines of the Operator, with the prospect of further expanding it through the 12,000 km overhead and submarine lines throughout the Greek region.

Within 2020, GRID TELECOM is expected to launch a state-of-the-art DWDM telecommunications network in order to deliver Ultra High-speed leased lines called “Lamda”.  The topology of the existing fiber optics network ensures high quality customer service, while network expansions are planned according to commercial needs. GRID's network will ensure routing to Greek Islands, as well as beyond Greece's borders.
