Emergency measures to protect employees against COVID-19

Protection measures

The Independent Power Transmission Operator has taken a series of emergency measures to protect its employees, and by extension all citizens, against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The measures escalated since the first case was recorded in Greece, and have since been constantly updated as the disease evolves. In this context, IPTO has drawn up a Business Continuity Plan in consultation with the responsible agencies and the Ministry of Environment and Energy, which it updates in line with any new development or instruction.

At the center of IPTO's strategy lies the protection of Public Health and the assurance of the country's uninterrupted power supply. To this end, all the prevention measures recommended by the competent Authorities have been taken. Also, enhanced protection measures are implemented at the Energy Control Centers, which are responsible for the monitoring, operation and control of the Hellenic Electricity Production and Transmission System.

Mandatory remote work since 16 March 2020

In the context of intensifying the measures against the spread of the virus, as included in the recent Legislative Acts, IPTO has introduced remote working since Monday, March 16th, for all employees who can remotely perform their job.

We should note that all workers in the Energy Control Centers, who are necessary for the smooth operation of the Electric System, all workers necessary for completion of the Target Model, all workers necessary on the field for the maintenance of the System, all workers necessary on the field for the completion of the Transmission System projects, continue to go to work regularly, while observing all protection measures announced by the competent bodies.

IPTO is supporting Greek society with all its power by ensuring the unhindered electrification of the country and contributing towards halting the spread of the virus to everyone’s benefit.
