IPTO Management talk on the course of maturation of the institutional framework and technical issues for Offshore Wind Farms with the Managements of HEREMA and HWEA

IPTO Management talked about the course of maturation of the institutional framework for Offshore Wind Farms (OWF) as well as technical issues related to the development of this new RES technology, with the Managements of HEREMA (Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company) and HWEA (Hellenic Wind Energy Association).

The meeting held at the Operator’s headquarters was attended by IPTO’s Chairman and CEO, Mr. Manos Manousakis, IPTO’s Vice-Chairman, Mr. Ioannis Margaris, HEREMA’s CEO, Mr. Aristophanes Stefatos, HWEA’s Chairman, Mr. Panagiotis Ladakakos, HWEA’s General Director, Mr. Panagiotis Papastamatiou and HEREMA’s Offshore Wind Development Consultant, Ms. Flora Karathanasi.

The heads of the Directorates of the three organizations that have a central role in the implementation of the national planning for the OWF discussed, in addition to regulatory issues, the important technical parameters related to the necessary interconnection infrastructures, the optimal utilization of the available electrical space and the technological solutions that are offered for the floating wind turbines, based on the characteristics of the Greek seas.

The three sides agreed that the swift promotion of offshore wind power will greatly help to achieve national energy goals and confirmed that they will be in close and constructive cooperation in the future.

The Chairman and CEO of IPTO, Mr. Manos Manousakis, said in this regard: “Consistent in its strategic planning, IPTO is active in the field of Offshore Wind Parks and supports the agencies that have a key role in the development of this new RES technology. The cooperation of the Operator with HEREMA and HWEA is necessary so that in the coming years we can produce clean energy from the rich wind potential of the Greek seas and transport it, in a safe and efficient manner, to the island and mainland country, contributing to the objectives of green transition”.

HEREMA’s CEO, Mr. Aristophanis Stefatos, said: “Our goal is to complete the National Offshore Wind Farm Development Program in the near future, ensuring as unobstructed as possible Offshore Wind Farm Organized Development Areas for the relevant investments. HEREMA continues its close and constructive cooperation with IPTO and HWEA, among other bodies, in order to ensure the appropriate conditions for the successful development of these important and critical projects for the national economy and energy transition in Greece”.

HWEA’s Chairman, Mr. Panagiotis Ladakakos, said: “Offshore wind energy is a great opportunity for Greece. It can provide a large amount of clean power in an environmentally optimal way and significant economic growth through a dynamic domestic value chain that will mobilize important sectors of the national economy, such as shipbuilding, shipping, cables, etc. In order to achieve these goals, the cooperation of the wind market with IPTO and HEREMA, which play a critical role, is continuous and close, as was also confirmed during the meeting of the three entities”.
