Contractor selection for the interconnection of Skiathos

The Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) announces the completion of the tender process for the electrical interconnection of Skiathos to the 150kV System through Evia (Mantoudi).

The project includes the installation of submarine and underground cables in Evia and Skiathos and construction of a Substation in Skiathos. Specifically:

  1. For the design, procurement and installation of underground and submarine 150kV cables for the 150kV Transmission cable at the “Mantoudi-Skiathos” section, offers were submitted by companies Prysmian and Hellenic Cables. Hellenic Cables was announced contractor of the project with a 42.8 million euro contract.
  2. For the design, procurement of equipment and installation of the new GIS 150/20 kV Substation in Skiathos, offers were submitted by companies ABB, MYTILINAIOS-GE, TOMI-HYOSUNG and NARI-ELECTROMEC. ABB was announced contractor of the project with a 9.5 million euro contract.

Construction of the Interconnection will begin in January 2020, with a 20-month implementation time frame. This is the first time that Skiathos will be interconnected with the 150 kV High Voltage System. The new electrical interconnection will ensure the stability of the electricity supply of the Northern Sporades group of islands during the summer months.

Mr Manos Manousakis, Chairman and CEO of IPTO, noted on the subject: “The strong interest raised by the tender for the Interconnection of Skiathos, expressed by the largest manufacturers globally, is a vote of confidence in the Operator’s work. Yet another island will be interconnected to the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System. Once the project is completed in 2021, the supply problems which the islands of the Northern Sporades face, will be finally resolved. IPTO is continuing with its projects for the interconnection of the islands at a rapid pace, with the goal of achieving reliable electricity transmission on sustainable terms across the country.”
