Grid Telecom, a 100% subsidiary of IPTO, announces the successful completion of the open tender regarding the development of its proprietary DWDM fiber optic backbone network. Space Hellas has been awarded as the contractor of the project and Huawei as the technology supplier.
In the framework of the telecommunications project, with a budget of 9 million euros and completion period over the following six years, Grid Telecom will utilize the wide experience of Space Hellas to develop its nationwide DWDM network as well as state-of-the-art technology equipment from Huawei. The DWDM OSN 9800 equipment to be used is Huawei's flagship as regards DWDM backbone networks, with the aim of providing optimal services to Grid Telecom’s customers.
Grid Telecom's new, high-availability optical network is expected to provide high-speed interconnection speeds (10 Tbps), tariff plans based on customer needs, extremely low data transfer latency (Latency Guarantee), direct services activation and Metro Ethernet services.
Grid Telecom has already concluded important agreements for the commercial use of its optical network and within 2021 will proceed to the provision of high-capacity services between large urban centers of the country. Grid Telecom's fiber optic network currently exceeds 4,000 km and is expected to double in the coming years, actively contributing to the digital transformation of the country.
